Folding Entire 360-Degree Worlds Into One Sphere With 3DGS

It's called "inversphere".

Last year, we featured VoxelKei's fun 3DGS of a Japanese park presented inside a sphere, a concept the developer said he wanted to explore further. Now, that idea has evolved into something more ambitious called inversphere.

The interesting part is that it doesn't just put a 3D scene inside a sphere, this method warps the entire surrounding environment into the spherical form. It really feels like a little memory bubble.

"I've created a new way to showcase 3D Gaussian Splatting. It's called Inversphere. Unlike 2D little planets, this inverts the entire space spherically. While the conventional way of putting it inside a glass marble 'clips' it with a sphere, this 'folds' it into the sphere, so the 360-degree view extends stereoscopically to infinity", said VoxelKei (machine-translated).
