Free Blender Tool For Easily Cutting Meshes With Planes
It includes a live preview.
Firg's Cut Plane does exactly what its name implies: it lets you slice a mesh with a plane and see the result in real-time as you move it. To use the tool, position the plane using a gizmo, and the mesh is bisected and redrawn with every adjustment, making it easy to preview the cut before committing. Press Enter to finalize the cut.
The preview is a real bisect of the mesh, not an approximation. Move or rotate the plane, and the cut updates instantly. The original mesh comes back when you leave the tool, switch tools, save, or exit Edit Mode. You also get a few cut options: Fill caps the cut surface, while Clear Inner and Clear Outer remove one side of the mesh. It's possible to restrict the cut to selected geometry.
You can also cut with mirrored copies of the plane. One plane can become two, four, or even eight, making it easy to create multiple cuts at once. Numeric input is supported too, and there's crash recovery to help protect your work.
Cut Plane is free and available through Blender's Extensions. After installing the tool, enter Edit Mode and select Cut Plane from the toolbar to get started. Cut Plane requires Blender 4.5 or newer to work.
