The cuts affected several divisions.

Google laid off hundreds of workers from several divisions in a new wave of job cuts on Wednesday. According to The New York Times, the affected employees worked in the engineering division as well as the hardware division that makes Pixel phones.
Apart from these, people involved with Google Assistant were also let go, but most of the hardware layoffs struck a team working on AR.
This round of job cuts just adds to the ones in other big companies like Amazon, Snap, and Zillow. A year ago, Google's CEO announced it would be removing around 12,000 jobs, or 6% of its global workforce. With this trend continuing in 2024 globally, I expect to see more unpleasant news soon.
