Grand Theft Auto's Steven Ogg Auditioned for Far Cry Villain Role

Unfortunately, he didn’t get the role, which "shocked" him.

Steven Ogg, an acclaimed Canadian actor best known for portraying Trevor Philips in GTA 5 and  Simon in The Walking Dead, recently auditioned for the role of Far Cry villain. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the role, which "shocked" him.

As spotted by sharp-eyed Reddit user tseidios, while replying to a fan’s comment saying he “would be a great Far Cry villain,” Ogg shared that he did join an interview for a villain in Far Cry series, Ubisoft’s first-person shooter games franchise since 2004, but failed to get the role.

This “true story” actually happened recently, so the chance is high that the Far Cry game he auditioned for could be either Far Cry 7, internally referred to as Project Blackbird, which serves as Ubisoft's upcoming mainline title, or codenamed Project Maverick, a standalone Far Cry multiplayer game centered around extraction-based gameplay. Both games, announced in January 2023, are under development by Ubisoft Montreal.

Fans' opinions on Ogg for a Far Cry villain role are quite divided. Some players would hope he can get the role since he’s got such great talent to be a perfect antagonist simply by looking at how he embodied Trevor. While some say he is too “associated with Trevor” and Trevor is too iconic, to the extent that Steven Ogg is always showing up together with Trevor.

GTA 5

If we look at Ogg's accolades, all the awards nominations or wins are granted to his excellent performance in GTA 5. That could be a problem for video game fans because they probably will be baffled and distracted seeing or hearing Trevor in Far Cry; that would also be something game developers, who are trying their best to create an immersive experience, wouldn't want to see.
