Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Brings Fans Hope For A Possible Release Date Announcement

Will it be officially announced during any of the several major industry events that are coming up this week?

With GTA 6 now expected to arrive in 2026, Hollow Knight: Silksong would definitely be a stronger competitor for the trophy of most anticipated 2025 games. But news regarding it has been really scarce, which is why its recent Steam update has caused so much buzz.

As spotted by Wario64, the developer Team Cherry has updated the highly-anticipated sequel's packages, according to tracks shown on SteamDB. Unlike the store changes back in March, when the team changed minor data, such as the date of legal lines from 2019 to 2025, opted in for NVIDIA's GeForce Now cloud service, and added several header images, one of the packages updated this time has not been touched during the past 15 months.

The timing of this action — it happens just two days before the Nintendo Switch 2 hits the shelves tomorrow — has led to speculation that the game might be shadow dropped on the new console as well as all other platforms.

If this doesn't occur, there are other significant events coming up within this week, like the Summer Game Fest on June 6 and the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 two days afterward.

It's been nearly six years and four months since the official announcement of the sequel to the beloved 2017 Metroidvania dropped on Valentine's Day back in 2019, so when signals for a possible release date announcement appear, it feels unreal for some.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on various platforms when it's released, including Linux, macOS, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. For Xbox Game Pass subscribers, it was confirmed that the game will be available on day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Also, as a game created by a team based in Australia, the game will be playable in September at ACMI, Australia's national museum of screen culture.
