Insighful Look at 007 First Light's World, Characters, Concent & VFX
Developers from IO Interactive shared the work they created for the James Bond adventure.
A new James Bond adventure, 007 First Light, was released in May and gained 'Very Positive' results on Steam, with 3 million copies sold within the first two weeks. The game became IO Interactive's fastest-selling title.
IO Interactive's Rasmus Poulsen, Franchise Art Director, and Claudio Della Neve, Production Art Director, recently shared (via ArtStation) that to deliver a new adventure belonging to the iconic franchise, they contemplated what constitutes an authentic, "core James Bond experience." While this gave a space for thinking, the team knew for sure it aimed for "the sky high" quality and started creating the project by "developing facial animation rigs from the ground up, new ways of rendering stitching and fine details on clothing, as well as reshaping [the] skeletal systems for better results."
Alongside the work on the character's skin, hair, and eyes, conducted by character artists, the hard work on the project, conducted in collaboration with the environment team employing several veterans from the Hitman series, ensured a cinematic and emotional experience.
"We were also toying with game ideas that would fundamentally challenge the way we build environments: From general driving and full on car chases, to falling out of planes and other exciting action moments the team would need to learn and develop many new skills and technologies."
The developers have shared a closer look at the scenes and the characters from 007 First Light:
