In case you missed it, back in April, NVIDIA officially released RTX Remix, a neat modding platform that enables developers to drastically improve the visuals in classic games by capturing game assets, automatically enhancing materials with powerful AI tools and quickly enabling RTX with ray tracing and DLSS.
First unveiled back in September 2022, the toolkit was built in NVIDIA Omniverse and can be used to remaster old-school DirectX 8 and 9 games and add path-tracing to them. The technology was used earlier to create RTX versions of Valve's Portal, Half-Life 2, Max Payne, World of Warcraft, and many other old-school games.
The list of "remixed" classics has recently been joined by EA Black Box's legendary 2004 racing game Need for Speed: Underground 2, all thanks to the modder known only as Uncle Burrito, who utilized RTX Remix to add ray tracing to the game and boost its graphics.
Showcased with a series of demos, the enhanced version of the Underground 2 boasts highly-realistic lighting and enhanced visuals, making it hard to believe that the original game has been released nearly two decades ago. According to the author, the project is still at its earliest stages of development, but already looks very promising.
