Next-Level Photorealism: A 3D Take on Rammstein's Till Lindemann

Roger Magrini unveiled an awesome new portrait, showing how 4 years of experience change an artist.

Roger Magrini, a Senior 3D Creature/Character Artist known for his highly realistic CG humans that have wowed us in the past, continues the series with an absolutely mind-blowing 3D recreation of Till Lindemann, a legendary musician and Rammstein's timeless lead vocalist.

With this portrait, the artist aimed to test a "stretchy sclera" in the eye's range of motion (ROM) and create a model that would work for both real-time rendering in Unreal Engine and offline rendering in Arnold. The clothing on Roger's digital Till is based on the musician's real-life pink fur coat, and, according to the author, it took considerable time and effort to thoroughly recreate it in 3D. In addition to the aforementioned rendering apps, the creator also used Maya, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, and XGen.

Interestingly enough, this is not the first time Roger has recreated Till in 3D. The first portrait, attached below, was unveiled 4+ years ago, allowing us to compare the two and witness how nearly half a decade of experience has transformed the artist's skills.

If you would like to learn more about Roger's character art workflows, we also recommend checking out our 2022 interview with the artist, where he walked us through the working process behind the Yoko Shimomura portrait, explained how the model was made with Maya, XGen, and Arnold, shared some tips and tricks on creating realistic characters, and more.
