Make old games look even better than modern ones.
NVIDIA released RTX Remix 1.2, an update to its modding platform that can upgrade old games with ray-tracing.
The main dish of the update is a new advanced particle system that lets modders enhance fire and smoke effects. NVIDIA says that while legacy particles could cast realistic light, they lacked "detail, flair, and fluid animations."
The new system allows users to add all of these and more, which "opens the door for over 165 RTX Remix compatible games to have advanced particle effects for the first time."
"RTX Remix particles are GPU-driven, meaning you can add tens of thousands of them without significantly reducing performance. They are path-traced, meaning they cast accurate shadows, and are reflected in the world – a rarity in games. Additionally, they feature a realistic physics simulation, complete with proper collisions with the environment."
Moreover, the tool lets you include particles into your scene instantly while you play. If you want, you can also create your own particles in the RTX Remix Toolkit.
NVIDIA notes that since the RTX Remix's release, the modding community has grown to 237 active projects and over 100 RTX Remix mods have been launched, improving popular games like Half-Life 2, Need for Speed Underground, Portal 2 and Deus Ex, boasting over 2 million downloads.
