Over Half of Activision Blizzard's Revenues Past Quarter Were from Mobile Games

The company earned $831 million from mobile games.

Activision Blizzard earned more from mobile games in the last quarter than from PC and console games together, according to its financial report. "Mobile and ancillary" revenues reached $831 million, which is 51% of the total earnings, while console titles brought $376 million and PC games – $332 million. An additional $105 million was brought by the "other" category, which includes revenues from the distribution business, the Overwatch League, and the Call of Duty League.

This year's results are quite different from the same quarter in 2021 when console and PC earnings reached $740 million (32% of total revenues) and $628 million (27%) respectively, while mobile revenues amounted to $795 million (35%).

Activision’s Q2 revenue and operating income declined year-over-year because of "lower engagement for the Call of Duty franchise" and lower World of Warcraft net bookings, according to the report.

The biggest net revenues came from King, the developer of Candy Crush, which Activision acquired in 2016 and whose revenues reached $684 million in the quarter.

The quarter's results show that Activision Blizzard's work on mobile games is paying off, with Diablo Immortal and over $100 million it got in the first months after launch being the brightest example despite the players' criticism of the game's microtransactions policy.
