Procedurally Place Objects in Your Scenes with New Clutter System for S&Box Game Creation Platform
A nice way to get into game development.
Facepunch
s&box is an upcoming open-source game creation platform built on the Source 2 engine by Facepunch Studios, the developers of Garry's Mod. If you haven't heard of it, maybe it's time to take a look: the studio released a new Clutter system, which allows you to procedurally place objects in your scenes.
The tool is independent of the terrain system and supports both prefabs and instanced models. "It can be used to automate tasks such as procedurally generating landscapes, painting enemies, or even acting as a world grid system."

You can choose from a list of scatterers or create your own. Each scatterer can expose various settings to tweak object placement. You can make scattering infinite by dividing the world into tiles, which you can configure on the clutter resource. This way, objects will appear procedurally around the camera as it moves in the world.
Alternatively, you can paint clutter resources with a brush, which uses the scatterer algorithm, allowing you to create dynamic brushes, like one that reacts to the underlying terrain or nearby structure.

Aside from this useful tool, Update 26.03.04 introduces polished menu, multiple UI improvements, new inventory, and more.
