Is the letter "R" free again?
Just as the story of Take-Two Interactive disputing Remedy's new logo started to spread all over the internet, the issue fizzled out. Apparently, the companies resolved their disagreement last year already, it's just that legal formalities have been slow to update.
In case you missed it, not so long ago, it was found out that Take-Two, Rockstar Games' parent company, didn't agree with Remedy's new "R" logo as it looked too similar to the GTA creator's. They thought there was a "likelihood of confusion on the part of the public" and filed a trademark dispute.
However, the story is not as fresh as everyone thought. Remedy has sent a statement to several outlets covering the situation, saying the two fixed their issues in late 2023 and now continue their partnership.
"There is nothing to see here – this was a discussion between our teams that was resolved entirely and amicably late last year. Unfortunately, it took a little longer to complete than we had hoped due to some holiday scheduling. The legal filing was simply an initial formality, and Remedy and Take-Two continue to work together in partnership," a representative told Eurogamer.
Well, that ended surprisingly quickly and without too much hassle. Hopefully, this year we won't see legal battles over the alphabet anymore. What do you think about this little battle?
