Silent Hill Producer Says Konami Plans "Second and Third" Waves of Games

"We're currently looking at a number of projects," series producer Motoi Okamoto said.

Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto said Konami is already considering a second and possibly a third "wave" of Silent Hill games. In the talk with Famitsu in Issue 1965 (via Game Observer), Okamoto reflected on the franchise's comeback and said he was glad the promised titles successfully launched: "All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we're relieved. They've also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it."

According to the producer, Konami plans to develop the series and ship more Silent Hill games. "Successfully launching this 'first wave' comes with great relief, but we're not stopping here; we must think of the second and third waves." He confirmed that several projects are planned: "We can't share specific details, but we're currently looking at a number of projects."

Okamoto also explained why the company chose to announce several Silent Hill projects at once instead of a single game. He said the cancellation of Silent Hills, the 2015 project from Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus, could leave fans skeptical of any new attempt to revive the series. "If there were only one release, wouldn't people think that the development is going to be cancelled again, I thought." The new, broader plan even includes a fourth, free-to-play entry, Silent Hill: The Short Message.

The first Silent Hill transmission, Konami's recurring digital showcase event, took place in 2022 and brought fans several major reveals, including the Silent Hill 2 Remake and spinoffs titled Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill f, Silent Hill Ascension, and a third film based on the series titled Return to Silent Hill. Silent Hill: Townfall was released in September.

Capcom also recently shared its plans to ship more games in one of its series: producer Masachika Kawata said that the company's goal is to release a new Resident Evil title every year.
