Southeast Asia as a Key Player in Mobile Game Development

With nearly 2 billion mobile game downloads in Q1 2025 and rapid growth in monetization, the Southeast Asian region (SEA) has become one of the major hubs for mobile game development.

By the end of 2025, the SEA games market is projected to reach $14.79 billion, with expectations to increase to $21.13 billion by 2030. Moreover, SEA remains one of the key regions in the global mobile gaming industry, presenting important opportunities for developers. According to Sensor Tower, SEA ranked second for mobile game downloads in Q1 2025, with 1.93 billion new installs, which is a 3% rise from Q4 2024.

Statista experts highlight that, in 2025, SEA developers were more focused on creating free-to-play mobile games, which were monetized through in-app purchases and advertising. Vietnam became the leader in the share of games with in-app ads (89%), while Singapore dominated in the percentage of games with in-app purchases (74%).
