Bethesda's Starfield is the fifth-best release in Europe this year and the first if we take into account its launch week.

Launched on September 6, Starfield caught a lot of attention since players all around the world were looking to it. After its launch, fans couldn't help but make creative artworks related to the game. Some of them reimagined Starfield's universe as a tiny world, others chunkified their breakfast.

The attention to the game was huge, and some numbers from Bethesda's developers can prove it. The creators announced that just 2 days after Starfield's launch, more than 6 million gamers played it. If you want to have more data, you can read it here and here.

Another data proof came from GSD, which recently published new information, stating that so far, Bethesda's Starfield showed the fifth-best launch in Europe in 2023. It falls short of games like Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Here is the data:

Europe's best launch in 2023:

  1. Hogwarts Legacy
  2. Diablo IV
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  4. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  5. Starfield
  6. Resident Evil 4
  7. Final Fantasy XVI
  8. F1 23
  9. Dead Island 2
  10. NBA 2K23

According to data for the launch week, which ended on September 10, Starfield took the top spot with strong sales. Additionally, due to attractive discounts, Need for Speed: Heat and Titanfall 2 made a comeback and found their place in the European top rankings.

Europe's best weekly launch (digital and physical copies sold from September 4 to September 10):

  1. Starfield
  2. NBA 2K23
  3. Titanfall 2
  4. Grand Theft Auto V
  5. Red Dead Redemption 2
  6. Need for Speed: Heat
  7. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege
  8. Hogwarts Legacy
  9. FIFA 23
  10. Sid Meier's Civilization VI

The data may not be entirely comparable as Starfield had a slight advantage in sales because of its premium edition being available a week earlier, adding a few extra days of sales. Also, it's important to consider that Starfield's release on day one via Xbox Game Pass has not been taken into account in the provided data.
