"Low public acceptance of the company's content will adversely affect its results."
Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind one of 2024's biggest video game flops, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – a live-service title abandoned in early 2025, less than a year after launch – has released its annual financial report, outlining in numbers just how severely the game's underperformance impacted the studio's profits.

The developer reports its profits dropping by more than half in 2024 – 57.3%, to be exact – down to £1,648 million from £3,856 million in 2023. Rocksteady's overall turnover also declined, though less sharply, falling 14% to £32,618 million compared to £37,999 million the previous year.
"The popularity of content is difficult to predict and can change rapidly, and low public acceptance of the company's content will adversely affect its results," Rocksteady wrote, outlining one of the reasons for the drop. "The revenues derived from the sale, distribution, and licensing of video games and other content depend primarily on widespread public acceptance of that content, which is difficult to predict and can change rapidly."
The two waves of layoffs at Rocksteady following the release of Kill the Justice League have also affected the overall figures, with the studio reporting a 17% reduction in staff, from 258 to 214 – losing 3 employees from the Administration and Support department, 1 from Sales, Marketing, and Distribution, and 40 from Game Development. Despite this, staff costs actually slightly increased in 2024, rising to £25,075 million from £23,820 million.
