Telltale Aims to Make The Wolf Among Us Remaster "Shine Without Changing the Heart" of the Game

Telltale's VP of Creative and the Remaster’s Game Director, Matt Saia, shared some insights into how the team is approaching the new version of their 2013 title.

In a recent conversation with Epic Games, Telltale's VP of Creative and the Remaster’s Game Director, Matt Saia, stated that Telltale's goal for The Wolf Among Us Remastered is to make it "shine without changing the heart of what makes the original game so memorable."

The original 2013 game is a critically acclaimed title that received mostly positive reviews, got several nominations at the D.I.C.E. Awards and British Academy Games Awards, and won Direction in a Game Cinema at the 2014 National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers.

Early in development of the remastered version, the team decided they wanted to keep the feel of the familiar game intact, with most changes being in visual fidelity. Telltale decided to preserve the original story, core directorial choices, and character identities. They went for major upgrades in the visual part of the game: polished environments, improved lighting, and added definition to the characters.

Some areas got more noticeable touch-ups than others. These include, for instance, Faith and Lawrence's apartment. "Originally, it was a fairly simple space that looked like a typical apartment. As we revisited it, we thought it would be more interesting to reflect the decay of a fallen prince and tie that directly to the characters who inhabit it," Saia explained.

Saia also shared that the new version features several deleted scenes. He added that those would be fun to explore and see where the story might have gone if they'd made it to the main plot. Aside from those, the remaster allows you to play in Noir Mode. It turns the entire game world black-and-white and creates a more mysterious feel, which is perfect for a detective story like The Wolf Among Us.
