The Upcoming Metal Gear Solid Remake Is Powered by Unreal Engine 5

Konami shared the first in-engine look at its upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta.

During the recent Xbox Partner Preview showcase, Konami shared an official gameplay trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta, an upcoming remake of the iconic action-adventure stealth video game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, providing the first in-engine look at the remake and announcing that the game will be powered by Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5.

The new trailer shows Naked Snake exploring a lush jungle setting, complete with a variety of lifelike animals, and shares a glimpse at the remake's stealth gameplay, demonstrating the main character crawling around unseen and performing a couple of sneaky kills on unsuspecting enemies. As mentioned by Konami, all of the game environments seen in the trailer are rendered in UE5 and captured in-game in real-time.

For those unaware, Metal Gear Solid Δ was first announced earlier this year, promising to be a faithful remake of the original 2004 game and even feature the original voice cast. Shortly after, Konami also shared more information about the game, stating that Hideo Kojima didn't participate in the remake's development and explaining why the Delta symbol (Δ) was chosen instead of "3".

Currently, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater appears to be in its pre-alpha development phase, indicating that its release may still be several months or even years away.  You can visit Konami's official website to learn more about the upcoming remake.

In other MGS-related news, we previously reported on an impressive feat achieved by a modder named Serge, who addressed the inadequate PC ports of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection within a mere 10 hours of the games unlocking on Steam.

Serge released a small 64.5-kilobyte tool that enables players to enjoy the titles at 4K or other resolutions. This mod effectively resolves the issue of the emulated HD remasters of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 rendering at a subpar 720p on higher resolution monitors, ensuring a much clearer and visually appealing experience. You can learn more and download the mod here.
