The Witcher 4 Will Not Launch in 2026, with New Trilogy Planned within Six Years

CDPR shared the information at the Q3 earnings call.

CD Projekt Red confirmed that The Witcher 4 will not launch in 2026 and outlined plans to release the new trilogy within six years.

At the studio's Q3 earnings call, Joint CEO at CDPR Michał Nowakowski was asked about the current stage of The Witcher 4 development and what key technical or design risks could impact the release window. Responding to the question, the developer explained that the game is now in full-scale production and progresses at a regular pace. As for the release date, he noted only that the title will not launch in 2026:

"The Witcher 4 is in the full-scale production phase. We're not disclosing any details regarding the target release date, so there's not a point in time I could refer to when answering such a question. The only thing we're commenting is that we're not launching in 2026, and we're also not typically getting into any specifics regarding technical or design matters. There's nothing out of the ordinary, I'd say, in that area happening with TW4 – it’'s just full-scale production proceeding at its pace, as per our internal plans. I think that's as much as we can say."

As for the next games in the new trilogy, Michał Nowakowski shared that they are expected to arrive more quickly, with the entire trilogy planned to be released within six years:

"In a way, yes, I do believe that further games should be delivered in a shorter period of time – as we had stated before, our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between TW5 and TW6 and so on."

The Witcher 4 was nominated for the Most Anticipated Game award at this year's The Game Awards, but the developers shared that the studio "won't be bringing any new content to TGA this year."

Over the first half of the year, the studio extended its teams that work on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2. Reviewing CD Projekt Red's recent financial results, the studio's CFO Piotr Nielubowicz shared that Cyberpunk 2077 showed better sales results than The Witcher 3 over a similar post-release period. The sci-fi RPG, together with its expansion Phantom Liberty, is CDPR's top-performing title and main contributor to the sales.
