This Grotesque Material is Oddly Beautiful Even Though It Looks Like Intestines
It's disgusting and horrifying, but strangely amazing. Could you imagine this in a video game?
This project, named Insides by John Enderle, might not be conventionally beautiful to look at, but it's certainly impressive and perhaps weirdly cool.
The 3D Environment Artist created a material that looks like intestines and guts using Substance 3D Designer. He added that this project was different from what he usually does, but he wanted to try new techniques and approaches, creating a more disgusting material you might see in a horror game. He also used Blender and Unreal Engine to make it.
Enderle achieved a material that looks very realistic, with a shiny appearance that reminds me of gastric juices. It's a material that I would love to see in a horror game where you have to crawl inside a monster to find something. It's reminiscent of some of the otherworldly scenes found in games like The Medium and Silent Hill.
The artist shared some images from the creation process:
Check out other projects by Enderle, like the Arcane Perfumist Chest, the Italian Stone Seawall, or the Procedural Sci-Fi Material Generator project that we shared a few years ago.
And if you want to keep watching gross stuff, take a look at this impressive Cobweb Simulation made by Mohamed Fayed.
