This Medieval-Inspired Platformer with Real-Life Embroidery Has Launched on Steam
Check out Scarlet Deer Inn's engaging story.
Scarlet Deer Inn, a dark medieval folk tale featuring real-life embroidery, from Attu Games and Aurakenn Games, has launched on Steam. On July 21, the game became available after 5 years of development.
The platformer is a somber tale featuring an unusual art technique: it features animations crafted from physically embroidered frames, which were then adjusted digitally. The hand-crafted characters embark on their adventures against the backdrop of hand-painted backgrounds, altogether creating a charming world, reminiscent of book illustrations.

The medieval-inspired adventure is set in a seemingly peaceful village, where daily life revolves around simple chores and idle gossip, yet dark secrets hide just beneath the surface. Elise, the game's protagonist, is an ordinary mother of two with no epic backstory, but circumstances will soon push her into terrifying situations far beyond her everyday life.

The game was created by Attu Games, a husband-and-wife team from the Czech Republic. The legendary medieval atmosphere is enhanced by folk music inspired by the Middle Ages and performed on traditional instruments, available on vinyl.
