Twitch CEO Names GTA 6 Multiplayer Release Window
Could it really be that soon?
After being delayed twice, Grand Theft Auto 6 is now officially set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Earlier this month, we got our first glimpse of gameplay, and the reception has seemingly been very positive, with fans praising its visuals, NPC density, and immersive physics. The countdown is now underway, and other game companies appear to be strategically avoiding the same launch window.
GTA 6 has been so eagerly anticipated that, in the public eye, it has become more of a dream than a real game. And while a multiplayer component has always been expected, Rockstar has never officially confirmed a multiplayer mode. However, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy recently mentioned in an interview with Bloomberg that GTA 6's multiplayer will launch next year, in 2027:
"We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators. You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer."
The CEO added that in his seven years at Twitch, he has never seen this much anticipation for a game like Grand Theft Auto 6:
"It absolutely will spike the overall viewership meaningfully. How much I have no idea."
Clancy isn't the Rockstar representative you'd expect to make an announcement like this, but rumors of a GTA Online 2 have been floating around for a while, and Twitch and Rockstar have also seemingly gotten closer in recent years. How seriously should we take his statement?
GTA 6 pre-orders opened on June 25, and the game is also going digital-only. Even the physical version will reportedly include only a download code in the box, with no disc.
