Game Developer reubs released the final update on the project, showcasing the actual gameplay.
Back in August 2021, we reported on an incredible fan-made recreation of the legendary The Simpsons: Hit & Run, developed by Game Developer and YouTuber known as reubs in just a week using Unreal Engine 5.
To produce the remake, he used a tool created by Lucas Cardellini to export the original Hit & Run map to Unreal, enhanced some textures using AI, made a few textures by hand, turned ray tracing, and tweaked a couple of settings in the engine, getting an incredible recreation as a result.
Nearly a year after the first demo, in the Summer of 2022, the developer revisited the project, aiming to develop an open-world UE5 version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, complete with quests, dialogues, better car physics, the original's characters and environments, and more. A couple of days ago, reubs' year-long journey had come to an end as he finally revealed the completed version of the remake.
Dubbed "The Finale", the tenth and final part of the series showcases the actual gameplay, with the developer demonstrating the finished game world, showcasing a neat opening cinematic that was impossible to create back in 2003, and completing eight missions back to back, proving that his fan-made remake has indeed been finalized and is fully playable. You can check out the full playthrough attached above or by visiting reubs' YouTube channel.
And here are the previous nine parts in chronological order:
Following the completion of the Unreal-powered Hit & Run, reubs also shared a short demo, revealing that his next project will be a remake of Mindscape's 1997 open-world action-adventure game Lego Island:
