Xbox Aims to Release "At Least Four" Exclusive Games a Year

In a post-Xbox Games Showcase panel, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty discussed Microsoft's goal of achieving a more consistent release schedule.

After the airing of the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct, the Xbox leadership held an in-person panel in Los Angeles entitled "What’s Next for Gaming?" where it revealed various statistics and provided insights into the company's future strategy.

During the panel, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty was asked about the company's lineup of first-party games. In response, Booty acknowledged that Xbox "had some gaps last year" but expressed his optimism for the future, affirming that he believes a positive change is underway.

Booty then hinted that 2024 would be a major year for Xbox's first-party games, stating that the lineup for next year would be ramping up. He also revealed the company's goal is to release "at least four games a year" as part of its focus on exclusive titles.

It's unclear whether this count includes Bethesda games, but if it does, it indicates that there will be three titles this year: Redfall, which has already been released, Starfield on September 6, and Forza Motorsport on October 10. Looking ahead to 2024, Hellblade II and Avowed received release windows during the Xbox Games Showcase, accounting for half of that goal.

Still, it is important for fans to remember that achieving the goal of releasing four or more games per year may face delays, which are inevitable. However, Xbox seems to be actively working towards a more regular release schedule and making the most of its acquisitions. Each studio within Xbox Game Studios is now engaged in various projects, and hopefully, they will establish a consistent routine in due course.
