3D Artist Shows How To Make Procedural Fly Swarm In Blender
Moths add realism to anything, as you know.
Maybe it's not quite as simple as ibotpl claims, but it's certainly a cool setup worth saving for a future project. Alternatively, you can get the complete generator from the artist's Gumroad, which lets you create swarms of flies or other insects. The package includes the full scene, models, textures, camera, lighting, and compositing settings, all ready to render.
The generator is compatible with Blender 4.5 and above, with the compositing settings optimized for Blender 5.2. Take a closer look at the nodes below:

A few years ago, we featured ibotpl's Droplet Generator, which the artist has continued to maintain and has recently been updated to version 3.0. Remade from the ground up with an optimized distribution algorithm, droplets can now realistically cling to and flow along your meshes' contours. The new version also gives you a wide range of settings to fine-tune the flow dynamics and achieve the exact look you want.
