A UE5-Powered Train Driving Simulator With Hyper-Realistic Graphics

Check out Running Train, an upcoming rural Japan-inspired simulator from a Solo Developer.

With ultra-realistic first-person shooters and horror games being all the rage these days, it was only a matter of time before other genres adopted the new technology provided by Unreal Engine 5 and started experimenting with lifelike graphics.

A great case in point was recently presented by a Solo Game Developer known as Rizu, who shared a stunning new demo for Running Train, an upcoming UE5-powered train driving simulator with AAA graphics that can easily be mistaken for real life.

For those unaware, Running Train is an indie train-driving simulator game set in a fictitious Japanese rural railway, dubbed Takahashi-Hayama Railway. With this game, the developer plans to push digital realism to a new height and leverage the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 to make the game's visuals look as realistic as possible. Running Train is currently WIP, with the creator planning to share the game on Steam and EGS once it is complete.

With the new demo, the developer showed several of the game's camera modes and provided some insights regarding the train model. According to Rizu, the model seen in the demo is driven by the engine's Physics system and uses the AddTorque node.

And here are some of the earlier demos and screenshots shared by the developer:

Speaking of photorealistic games, previously, indie game developer known only as NIHIL INANE STUDIO also unveiled a stunning trailer, offering a first glimpse of Lost Fragment, the team's upcoming survival horror game with FPS elements inspired by the unsettling aesthetics of Japanese horror.

Recently, the creator of Bright Memory: Infinite, FYQD Studio, also joined the ranks, presenting Secluded Orchid – an incredibly realistic tech demo created with UE5, Megascans assets, and photogrammetry.
