Bethesda's Todd Howard Isn't Planning to Retire

The Bethesda Game Studios director spoke about his future with the studio in a new interview with Jason Schreier.

Todd Howard, Bethesda Game Studios director, says he has no plans to retire and intends to keep working in the industry.

In a new interview with Jason Schreier, Howard revealed that he briefly pictured stepping away from the industry, but says that thought no longer crosses his mind:

"The truth is there was a period of time a while back where I pondered what does it look like? Not is it imminent, but what does it look like? And I no longer do. I see the work we're doing. I just love it. I love working with these people. It's really not something I think about."

The full context of the conversation is available in Jason Schreier's video below:

Bethesda recently outlined its roadmap for its key franchises. The studio confirmed that Fallout 5 is now in pre-production, alongside remasters of 2008's Fallout 3 and 2010's Fallout: New Vegas, and shared that it's teaming up with Obsidian Entertainment on a new entry in the Fallout series. "We could not be more excited to work with Obsidian again," Todd Howard said.

The company shared that following the major restructuring, ZeniMax will focus on Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein.

Bethesda has also said that The Elder Scrolls VI remains the studio's top development focus, which is still reportedly two years away from release. The Elder Scrolls 6 would return to a more classic Bethesda style, as Todd Howard recently revealed.
