Bungie Is "Not Done with Destiny": Vaulted Content Will Be Back & Game Updates Are Coming
Bungie released a YouTube video discussing their plans for Destiny and Marathon.

In their YouTube video, Poria Torkan, Studio Head of Bungie, and Joshua Deane, Head of Product at Bungie, addressed what left many Destiny fans furious for years – the removal of paid content from the game. That included several expansions and campaigns like Red War, Curse of Osiris, Forsaken, and others.
"The consequences have been real. We lost trust. We lost incredible colleagues. And our ambitions as a studio stalled. We chased vision without enough focus on what players loved, and that's on us," said Torkan.
The last Destiny 2 expansions to date, Renegades and The Edge of Fate, both released in 2025, have received mixed to negative reviews. Earlier this year, Bungie announced that they were going to end the Destiny era by releasing their final major update for Destiny 2 in June. After that, major layoffs at the studio followed as a result of Destiny 2 being put to rest.
Earlier today, however, Bungie's Studio Head and Head of Product announced the return of the previously vaulted game content. Old campaigns, destinations, and raids that were removed over the years will soon be restored. "They will be available to all Destiny 2 players," stated Bungie, seemingly hinting that the returning content will be available for free.
"They were an essential part of our journey together and definitely a place where we built memories with you all. That first step, that restoration, will hopefully lay the foundation for how we reforge into new Destiny stories and games that you all deserve and that we want to create," explained Deane.
In the official news article on their website, Bungie added, in bold, that they were "not done with Destiny." Explaining that the game is foundational to their future, the team promised to build more worlds for the players to explore and more stories for them to dive into. Will there be a Destiny 3? Too soon to tell, as Bungie specifically only mentioned Destiny 2 and the expansion of its universe.
Torkan and Deane also added that while Marathon was an important part of paving the way for Bungie's future projects, it was never designed to replace Destiny. Plus, it ended up being less popular with gamers than the team had initially hoped.
