It seems that Capcom might charge more for its games in the near future. If you're wondering how much, it'll be the same as Dragon's Dogma 2's price, which is $69.99.
According to the company's latest earnings Q&A session, Capcom is considering reviewing the prices of their games and consequently raising them, as the game development costs are increasing as well.
"Dragon's Dogma 2, which is scheduled for release this fiscal year, will be priced at $69.99. Industry-wide development costs are rising, and we are considering a price review as one option," Capcom stated. "Ultimately, we intend to take a thoughtful approach in pricing our games while ascertaining user feedback."
While Dragon's Dogma 2 will be Capcom's first game to be priced at $70, the company hasn't officially committed to a complete transition to $70 releases at this time. It seems that the decision may depend on the reception of Dragon's Dogma 2, which is set to launch on March 22, 2024, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
No wonder why Capcom is thinking of reassessing its current prices, as President Haruhiro Tsujimoto recently stated that current game prices are "too low," noting that development costs have increased, "but the price of software hasn't risen so much."
The first $70 game was NBA 2K21, launched by Take-Two in August 2020. Subsequently, Activision, Sony, EA, Square Enix, Nintendo, Ubisoft, and Microsoft have also implemented this pricing strategy.
What do you think about Capcom's decision to reconsider its current prices?
