Create Procedural Materials With Material Maker, Now On Steam
Take a look at everything new in the Material Maker 1.7 release as well.
Material Maker, the procedural material authoring and 3D model texturing application by RodZilla, has arrived on Steam alongside the release of version 1.7.
It brings many UI and UX improvements, including toggleable side panels and keyboard shortcuts, and introduces a new Dynamic Sky Material node. Material Maker 1.7 also adds a 32-bit option for more nodes and updates PBR materials to allow the metallic input to use a parameter as its default value. There's also a long list of bug fixes included in the release, and since the tool is based on Godot, it has been upgraded to version 4.7.
In case you're not familiar with Material Maker, it works similarly to Substance 3D Designer. It uses a node-based workflow to create materials, where different nodes can generate, modify, and combine shapes, textures, and patterns. Once created, these materials can be exported directly to Godot, Unity, and Unreal Engine. Material Maker is available on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
Material Maker is also used by many professional artists, such as Pavel Oliva and Mingwei "CMZW" Lim, and we've had the chance to share plenty of their projects over the years. Here are a few fascinating creations showcasing smooth fire, a glowing pond, and surreal clocks:
Material Maker is still free on itch.io, but the Steam version gives users a way to support the project while getting the usual Steam conveniences. That includes automatic updates, so there's no need to keep checking for new versions manually, plus some achievements for completionists.
