Cyberpunk 2077 Has Reached 40 Million Copies Sold

The game has been reaching new heights.

Cyberpunk 2077 has hit a new milestone: 40 million copies sold. The news comes as the game recently reached its highest concurrent player count on Steam, with nearly 88,000 active users.

CD PROJEKT RED shared the announcement on its official X/Twitter, with Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski marking the occasion:

"40 million copies sold shows the incredible, lasting strength of Cyberpunk 2077 and is a testament to what CD PROJEKT does best – creating high-quality, immersive stories that keep players returning for years. It's a great foundation for our upcoming projects in this universe, including the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 anime arriving this fall," said Michał Nowakowski.

Released in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 faced a troubled launch but has gradually rebuilt its reputation over the years and has since become CDPR's top-performing title. On June 29, 2026, it was also among Steam's most-played games, recording more than 78,000 peak players. The renewed interest is likely driven by a combination of factors – significant discounts, years of post-launch improvements, and a broader conversation around the game that is no longer defined by its rocky debut.

The Night City universe has been expanding, and CDPR has teamed up with Zero Latency VR to create a standalone VR experience based on the game. Also, the studio is actively working on Cyberpunk 2 and has expanded the dev team working on it.
