Epic Expands Star Wars in Fortnite With Hundreds of New UEFN Experiences

Following the introduction of Star Wars tools in UEFN, Epic is rolling out a wave of creator-built experiences and new gameplay systems across Fortnite. May the 4th is almost here so it makes sense!

Just weeks after Star Wars officially arrived in Fortnite’s UEFN creator ecosystem, Epic Games is expanding the collaboration with a new wave of experiences today, including games, systems, and tools that push the integration far beyond a typical crossover event.

The latest update introduces what Epic describes as its largest Star Wars expansion yet, centered around a growing collection of creator-built games using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). These experiences span multiple genres, including large-scale team combat, survival scenarios, and experimental formats, all built using official Star Wars assets and gameplay systems.

According to Epic, creators now have access to one of the most extensive licensed toolsets available in Fortnite to date. This includes characters, weapons, environments, vehicles, and gameplay mechanics tied to the Star Wars universe, along with templates designed to support different types of experiences, from narrative-driven scenarios to large-scale PvP modes.

The result is a rapidly expanding library of Star Wars-themed islands, with Epic highlighting curated experiences alongside a broader push toward community-created content. Hundreds of islands are expected to go live, supported by dedicated Discover placement and ongoing visibility within the platform.

The update also extends into other parts of the Fortnite ecosystem. Within LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, new Star Wars content introduces vehicles, enemies, and characters such as the Mandalorian and Grogu.

Rather than producing a single, tightly controlled Star Wars experience, Epic is effectively distributing development across its creator base. This allows for rapid iteration and a wide range of interpretations, but also introduces new challenges around consistency, quality, and how licensed IP is represented across user-generated content.

More broadly, the initiative reflects Fortnite’s continued transition from a single game into a multi-experience platform. Since the introduction of UEFN, Epic has positioned Fortnite as a hub where developers can build and publish standalone experiences using shared tools and infrastructure.

Presumably, the hope is that taking a widespread approach will lead to a more consistent uptick in Fortnite player engagement. The downturn in Fortnite recently was cited as the main reason for the most recent round of Epic layoffs, which affected over 1,000 developers.

Fortnite now even has a Battlefront-like 10v10  PvP game mode that's entirely themed around Hoth from Star Wars. And it looks pretty fun, not gonna lie. I'll be trying it out this weekend for sure.

It's a wild time in the industry. Licensed content is increasingly becoming less restricted to traditional partnerships or standalone releases.

Instead, it can be integrated into creator-driven pipelines, where the volume and diversity of content are shaped as much by the community as by the platform holder.
