Have a Look at This Cool RCA Cable Hydra Brought to 3D with Blender

A tech-fantasy creature was modeled and animated from scratch, based on a 2D concept.

3D Artist known under the name of ImOfflineMode unveiled this eye-catching 3D render of an RCA cable hydra. The original concept, combining a composite cable with an imaginary creature, was created by Artist Certly in a striking 2D digital artwork.

ImOfflineMode masterfully brought the peculiar tech-fantasy creature to 3D, modeling and animating it in Blender. The artist recreated diverse textures, such as rubber, plastic, and shiny metal, and gave the creature subtle yet expressive motion. The result is a polished 3D model that balances a stylized look with high graphic fidelity.

If you want to take a look at how the cable hydra was made from scratch, check out the behind-the-scenes from the artists: Certly showed a time-lapse of the drawing process, and ImOfflineMode shared a sneak peek at the blocking stage in Blender.

As for Blender, its team recently launched a new 5.2 LTS version of the software, bringing new Geometry Nodes-powered physics, a Thin Wall mode in Principled BSDF, a Texture Cache system in Cycles, and more. We covered its new features many times: for example, you can learn more about Geometry Nodes-based physics for hair and cloth, Thin Wall mode, and Texture Cache.
