Making Batman: Arkham-Style Combat In Godot

Learn more about Wiseguy Works' project.

There's something about the Batman: Arkham series' combat that still works to this day. Maybe it's the smooth controls and fluid animations that make it feel like you're actually a superhero? A lot of games have tried to recreate the formula, and Wiseguy Works is currently working on a similar game project made in Godot.

Wiseguy Works has been developing the Arkham-inspired game Hire This Man since last March. Every model is made in Blender, then baked and textured in Substance 3D Painter, while the animations are handled in Blender too. For anyone interested in the details behind the combat system, you can check out the Reddit post.

"Godot continues to impress me with how capable it's gotten! It's an extremely solid 3D engine now.

If you are worried about Godot not handling 'complex' systems, don't be. It's been more than capable for my project", commented the developer.

Wiseguy Works also publishes devlogs on YouTube, so you can follow the project's progress:

If you're interested in getting into Godot, The GameDev Tavern has just released a new tutorial series covering the full process of building a dungeon crawler:
