New Pokémon Card Game Won't Feature NFTs

You can play Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket without worries.

The Pokémon Company has recently announced Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, a new experience from Creatures, the original developer of the 1996 Pokémon TCG, and DeNA. The game is focused on collecting digital cards, so some fans assumed it would feature NFTs.

However, The Pokémon Company denied the rumors, saying it has "not developed or approved" any Pokémon NFTs at all, and if you see any online, they are not official. So you can breathe out and look forward to your future collection.

"The Pokémon Company International has not developed or approved of Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) related to the Pokémon brand and associated intellectual property. Fans should be aware that any NFTs in the marketplace featuring Pokémon intellectual property are unofficial and in no way affiliated with The Pokémon Company International or the Pokémon brand," the company told Polygon.

NFT is a point of discontent for many people, gamers or not. Reports say its market has collapsed drastically since its peak, and players' negative reactions often discourage developers from pursuing this route.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is a free-to-play game that lets you open 2 booster packs daily at no cost. I'm pretty sure its monetization comes from extra packs, so there is no need for NFTs.

"Be on the lookout for new “immersive cards,” which will make you feel as though you’ve leapt into the world of the card’s illustration."

The game will be released in 2024 on iOS and Android devices.
