This Elastic and Dynamic Cube Animation Was Made Using a Blender Add-On
It's very satisfying to watch.
The CG Artist ymt3d on Twitter/X shared a really interesting and dynamic Blender animation that shows a cube moving with a lot of elasticity. The artist explained that the deformation was created using the add-on SMEAR.
The cube moves from one side to the other, jumping, stretching, and getting back to its original form. The animation has a painterly style, and the shadow of the cube also makes it more eye-catching.
SMEAR is a stylized Blender add-on that allows you to customize smear frames and motion effects like elongation. It uses geometry deformation, achieving a more elastic and kind of rubbery look, which is more cartoon-style.
ymt3d is an artist who has shared other projects on their Twitter/X account; some of the latest are an experimental material that's a shadow-casting pseudo point light.
You can check out other projects that show deformation of surfaces or materials, like Tomaso's demonstration of mesh deformations in Unity, Zhenggang Deng's custom Maya deformer for high-end facial rigging, or Pepe Buendia and Agustin Gonzalez's Cloth Curves Toolset, which allows you to deform clothes and transfer attributes.
