This Free Blender Add-On Quickly Automates UV Unwrapping

Check out UVgami and try it in your browser.

Software Developer Daniel Boxer presented UVgami, a free Blender tool for automatic UV unwrapping that runs in the browser. The tool is open source and available on GitHub.

The web app opens OBJ, GLB, GLTF, and FBX files and automatically creates a UV map. The unwrapping process runs locally, and models are not uploaded to a server.

UVgami's unwrapping engines are based on OptCuts, xatlas, and PartUV. OptCuts is the default CPU engine, allowing for the highest quality but can be slow. xatlas is much faster and suitable for quick UVs for lightmap baking and texture painting; however, it creates more seams. PartUV uses the GPU and needs CUDA (on Windows and Linux), but it produces fewer islands. You can read the detailed instructions on using the tool here.

Blender 5.3 is currently in Beta until November 4. The release is expected on November 10. The new 5.3 version will feature a range of new options, including native Gaussian Splatting support, native dispersion support, new nodes for creating custom material lighting, and more.

Recently, we featured many useful Blender tools, such as Supa Painter for a painterly effect, Boolean Master for Boolean-style cuts with clean quad topology, and CatPin for preparing your 3D models for printing:
