What to Play: Top-10 Cozy Games with a Unique Twist

Check out our selection if you're looking for something new to play.

It's probably safe to say that we all love cozy games. At least once in a while, it's nice to relax with a game that doesn't demand completing missions or battling scary bosses, and instead just lets you enjoy the visuals and soothing atmosphere of a blissful, magical world.

Here's our curated list of cozy games that transport you to different universes and introduce you to peculiar and sometimes quirky characters. Each of these games brings its own unique twist to the cozy genre, setting it apart from the rest.

Sandcastle

It’s a literal sandbox and a cozy game with a tropical twist: all you need to do is build sand fortresses on a pleasant sunny beach, using different tools like shovels and rakes, and enjoy the satisfying physics of sand and water with a lifelike sound design. You can build water moats, towers, and relive childhood memories or dream of your next vacation. Currently, the game has a playable demo, so check it out and wishlist to keep up with the updates.

Cat Mail Co.

This game is made by cat lovers and for cat lovers. You can surely tell that by the attention to detail that the developers show: there are little toy mice hidden in the game’s locations, a cursor in the menu is shaped as a cat paw, and feline customers of the postal office carry cute and witty names – for example, the last name of one of the cat visitors is Anklebiter. Controls are very smooth and pleasant, and it’s amusing how you can jump and run over piles of to-be-delivered mailboxes to receive new ones.

Cozy Country

In this upcoming game, you can explore the paintings that you create yourself – paint forests and rivers, build a village, add animals, and then explore everything you crafted. The sim is from Protopop, the developer of Meadowfell and Wilderless, beautiful nature games.

Witchbrook

This upcoming project combines the charming atmosphere of pixelated sims like Stardew Valley with a twist of witchcraft and magic. You play as a new student at a witch college. You discover a vibrant seaside city of Mossport and enter the college, along with your fellow witch classmates.

Leafy Corner

This game is all about plants. You run a little shop, nurture and sell a variety of real-life plants, help customers pick out their dream greenery, fulfill orders, and customize your cozy little place. It features beautiful plant assets made in Blender, with each plant crafted differently.

Midnight Memories

Happy Volcano's game is a diorama builder that comes with a cyberpunk flair, where you craft neon-lit rainy neighbourhoods and streets with various props, people, different buildings, rooftops with antennae, gardens, neon signs, and customizable lights.

ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs

If you are a fan of tech and gadgets, you might be interested in this nostalgic sim. It combines repairing mechanics, where you fix Y2K gadgets, and retro atmosphere of 1990s, with original characters and their stories.

Morning Crescent

The Queen's Gondola

This little game is a whimsical version of The Exit 8, inspired by Victorian and Art Nouveau styles, where you spot anomalies and unveil a mysterious story. As in other similar games, in this cozy horror, you test your attention and observation, thinking, "Has this light always been green?"

Tiny Bookshop

The title speaks for itself – you run a cozy second-hand book shop, stock it with different books and items, choose scenic locations, and discover the stories of local residents in an engaging narrative.

Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth

This charming game is inspired by the beloved Moomin stories by Tove Jansson. The heartwarming adventure is a love letter to the writer's children's story, set in cold wintery Moominvalley cloaked in the frosty veil of the Lady of the Cold, centering on friendship, courage, and help.
