A Beautiful Semi-Real Virtual Avatar Set Up in Unreal Engine 5

The author utilized facial capture data to set up the eye animations.

3D Artist and Generalist Hirokazu Yokohara, who earlier this month impressed us with a neat soft-body simulation created with UE5's Chaos Flesh system, continues to experiment with Epic Games' flagship game engine, presenting one more marvelous project set up in it.

Described as a "personal hobby project", Hirokazu's latest creation depicts a beautiful virtual avatar set up within the UE5.3 Path Tracer version. Thanks to a masterful combination of lifelike and exaggerated facial and body features, the character has a semi-realistic Alita: Battle Angel-like appearance. According to Hirokazu, the avatar boasts strand-based hair, while her eyes were brought to life leveraging pre-recorded facial capture data.

"The lighting makes the hair look more like a wig than I intended," commented the author. "However, since real young women are used to seeing white hair in cosplay wigs, I think it would be fine to have artificial hair. Especially since this character is semi-realistic."
