Check Out This Robot Character That Transforms Into A Ball
Arc Raiders could consider adding it.
In Crusator, a dynamic twin-stick shooter with RPG elements, you play as a combat robot who can shoot, throw grenades, and turn into a ball. Your mission is to protect humanity, but the Earth is eerily empty, and you have to find out what happened to its people. Upgrade your weapons and abilities as you face enemies and explore ruins that used to be cities in your quest.
The developer mentioned they're not actually an animator, so creating the robot's animation took a lot of time. The sound was provided by Max Shatalov. They promised to release a full breakdown later, but shared a few tips on animating robots in the meantime:
- Try not to use moving and rotating at the same time;
- After moving or rotating, copy the keyframe and paste it some frames later. It needs to make some kind of robotic movement. Moving – micro-stop – moving again. Animation shouldn't be smooth;
- Use zero-scale animation;
- Don't use zero-scale animation too often because you will need UV for each part.
