Check out this detailed tutorial on creating a character for a video game, provided by William Paré-Jobin.

William Paré-Jobin, a 3D Character Artist at Red Barrels, the studio that gave us the Outlast franchise, allowed us to repost his detailed and extensive tutorial on creating 3D characters.

"This is a low poly character rendered in Marmoset Toolbag 4. The hair cards were placed by hand in Blender and everything sculpted in ZBrush. Low poly and UV made in 3DsMax and textured in Substance Painter. The outfit of the character is 80k. Triangles and optimised for video game. Hair is 31K triangles," says the author.
