Cyberpunk 2077's New PS5 Pro Update is Absolutely Mind-Blowing

Cyberpunk 2077 has yet another update, and this time it's entirely focused on improving the game for PS5 Pro, complete with 4K visuals, ray tracing enhancements, and support for Sony's latest PSSR upscaler. Even ray-traced water reflections!

Cyberpunk 2077 has received a dedicated update for the PlayStation 5 Pro, introducing a suite of technical enhancements designed to take advantage of Sony’s most powerful hardware.

The free update focuses entirely on visual fidelity and performance improvements, with new rendering modes, expanded ray tracing features, and support for Sony's improved PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

A central part of the update is the introduction of three distinct graphics modes, each designed around a different balance of performance and visual quality:

  • Ray Tracing Pro Mode enables the full suite of ray tracing features, including the highest-quality reflections, ambient occlusion, better shadows, and more. It targets 30 FPS (or 40 FPS with VRR on your display) for maximum fidelity.
  • Performance Mode prioritizes frame rate, reaching up to 90 FPS on VRR-enabled displays while maintaining high image quality. You can even selectively uncap the framerate if you want.
  • Ray Tracing Mode serves as a middle ground, offering core ray tracing features at a target of 60 FPS.

I was skeptical about how good the base ray tracing mode could look compared to Ray Tracing Pro if it was targeting 60 FPS, so I tried it out.

See the results for yourself below. Despite Twitter compression and a non-4K video, the results are clear:

However, it seems like the way these updates interact with PSSR is what makes it even more impressive. For example, in the base ray tracing mode, the game hits a stable 60 FPS almost always, and when paired with PSSR, the fidelity is upscaled to 4K. Speaking from personal experience, recently playing games like Resident Evil Requiem, Crimson Desert, and Starfield all on PS5 Pro, it really is noticeable.

Previously, most high-fidelity games on consoles would force you to choose either 60 FPS+ or 4K visuals with ray tracing, but now with PSSR, you can effectively have both combined.
