Explore Butterfly Wing Scales Captured In 3DGS

Dany Bittel, whose portfolio showcases incredibly detailed 3DGS captures of all kinds of subjects, has once again pushed the boundaries. He managed to capture not just a butterfly, but tiny, approximately 2 mm sections of its wing as 3D Gaussian splats, revealing the individual scales that make up its structure.
This was made possible using an AstrHori 25mm macro lens at 5x magnification. As usual, you can explore all of the butterfly wing captures directly in your browser using SuperSplat by clicking here, here, and here.

Here's a quick video showing how these detailed splats are made. Multiple photos of the same subject are taken at different focus distances and then combined into a single sharp image. The idea might sound simple, but creating results like these takes a lot of skill and patience.
