Oblivion's Imperial City Reimagined With Next-Gen Graphics

Emil Rasmussen demonstrated a more realistic and cinematic take on Cyrodiil's capital made using 3ds Max, Nuke, World Creator, and V-Ray.

3D Environment Artist Emil Rasmussen has showcased a cinematic fan-remake of The Imperial City, the capital of Cyrodiil depicted in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Created as a graduation project in less than a month, Emil's take on the iconic location was inspired by the game itself, the Lord of the Rings movies, and the cinematic trailer for Bethesda's TES VI, boasting a fully raytraced CG quality.

According to the author, he was fully responsible for all aspects of production utilizing multiple 3D software to bring the environment to life. Emil's original ArtStation post reveals that the scene was made using 3ds Max, Nuke, SpeedTree, World Creator, and V-Ray.

Here are some of the renders and behind-the-scenes shots shared by the artist, you can check out more by visiting Emil's ArtStation page:

If you would like to learn more about Emil's environment art pipeline, we also recommend checking the breakdown shared by the author back in 2021, in which he and 3D Artist Narcis Calin explained how Dark Souls' Undead Asylum was recreated with Houdini, ZBrush, 3ds Max, Substance 3D Painter, and V-Ray.
