The Elder Scrolls 6 May Finally Have a Name Confirmation and It Makes Perfect Sense
Bethesda’s long-awaited RPG, The Elder Scrolls 6, reportedly has an official subtitle that connects directly to Hammerfell, earlier games, and a mystery fans seemingly solved months ago.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Title
After more than eight years of referring to Bethesda’s next fantasy RPG simply as The Elder Scrolls VI, The Elder Scrolls 6, or even just TES 6, the long-awaited game may finally have its full name.
According to The Verge, sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans say the RPG is officially titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Bethesda could announce the name as soon as November, potentially aligning the reveal with the 15th anniversary of Skyrim on November 11. The Verge currently expects only a title announcement rather than a full gameplay presentation, even though it's reportedly "progressing well" so far.
The name should sound familiar to anyone who followed the clues Bethesda and Xbox dropped earlier this year. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma described watching a live playthrough of “The Elder Scrolls VI: ********” in August. Fans quickly noticed that “Sentinel” matched the eight concealed letters, while former Bethesda writer Michael Kirkbride responded affirmatively to the theory.
More importantly, Sentinel is not an arbitrary fantasy subtitle. It is a major Redguard kingdom and port city located in northwestern Hammerfell, overlooking the Iliac Bay. Bethesda’s original Daggerfall manual identifies Sentinel as one of Hammerfell’s kingdoms, and the city was one of the three principal powers surrounding the Iliac Bay in The Elder Scrolls II.
That makes the subtitle a natural fit for the game’s alleged Hammerfell setting. It also follows Bethesda’s established naming pattern: Daggerfall takes its name from a city, while Morrowind and Skyrim are named after provinces. Sentinel could indicate that the city and its surrounding kingdom will serve as the narrative center of a larger journey across Hammerfell and the surrounding areas.
The Verge reports that the game will explore the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves and reveal secrets surrounding the mysterious ancient artifacts. Apparently, Bethesda had discussed the setting as far back as Fallout 4’s development. The studio has since moved most of its team onto the project, with Todd Howard promising a return to Bethesda’s classic exploration-driven design. Although it seems like he'd still prefer everyone pretend the game hasn't been announced yet.
Bethesda has not officially confirmed the Sentinel name, but after years of silence following the 2018 teaser, that confirmation may finally be approaching, even if the game is allegedly still two or more years away.
