This Might Be The Coolest Frozen Prawns Ad Ever

"Made pretty much entirely in Blender and After Effects with no use of AI."

This one is definitely one in a krillion and could easily be a full music video. Joshua De Boer created this 3D animation for Austral Fisheries, one of Australia's largest commercial fishing companies, paired with an original track by producer Matt Templemann and guitarist John Overthrow. And yes, this is a tiger prawns ad, and apparently, it's already on YouTube.

The project was created entirely in Blender and After Effects, with production from script and storyboard through to final delivery taking around 20-25 working days, spread over a couple of months. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the execution of Skull Island Prawns' Eat the Wild campaign:

"One of the most hectic bit of 30 seconds I have ever had the pleasure of making in my life! Tremondous amount of fun though pulling this together all credits below but special thanks for Luke Williams for bringing us this job, thanks to Adam Keogh for running things smoothly and keeping me sane so all I had to do was sit in a box and animate my little fingers off! And thanks to Eoin Cannon for doing what I can't and modelling a very cool 3D prawn!" said the animator.

Joshua also mentioned that some of the more complex shots took an entire night to render on a single RTX 4090. For the final delivery, it took around 2-3 days of total render time.

The water rippling effect was created using a Blender add-on by Casey Sheep called Better Lighting V2. This artist has plenty of amazing tools. For example, they recently launched a VFX library and Cloud Paint, a stylized cloud generator:

Blender is actually used widely in professional advertising. Dédouze used it for a Uniqlo ad, McDonald's Japan used it for its own version of Bad Apple!!, and we previously got a chance to talk with DOT4 about how they created a BoursoBank ad using Blender.
