This Super Mario Bros. Godot Recreation Will Bring You Old Memories
You can play it!
The user somedonkus69 shared on Reddit a Super Mario Bros. Godot recreation they did as part of the 20 Games Challenge to learn Godot and game development, and the result is very impressive.
The creator explained that they aimed to recreate World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. as faithfully as they could, creating everything from scratch. This allowed them to develop a deep understanding of this game and a new level of appreciation.
They worked on the project for around 45 days, and it doesn't include everything from the original game, like there is no fire flower or star power. The enemies have slightly different actions, like sometimes Koopas and Goombas can push each other instead of bouncing away from each other.
The game has only one level; dying just restarts it, and even though there is a secret 1-UP, it doesn't do anything, and it will be there again if you die after getting it.
somedonkus69 uses this as a way to learn more about game development, and as someone who grew up playing Mario Bros. games, seeing the 1-1 world recreated brings some nostalgia. You can try the game here.
And check other impressive recreations we have featured in the past, like Roshel Amuruz's 3D Popeye's boat, Juan Carlos CR's recreations of Scar and Zazu from The Lion King, or Mani Salguero's take on Serie from Frieren.
