The scene was made using 3ds Max, Substance 3D software, Megascans assets, and Unreal Engine 5.
3D Artist and Student Sam Carrier has unveiled Colts Creek, a gorgeous western-style game-ready environment inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the scene serves as the artist's introduction to creating environments using the engine and features tons of hand-made assets created by Sam using 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter/Designer, and Marmoset Toolbag. Additionally, the artist utilized Megascans to add foliage.
"I went through the entire process of creating an environment and learned a huge amount along the way. This included building a blockout, making tileable materials, and establishing a good lighting setup," commented the creator. "I investigated creating modular buildings and techniques I could use to add variation. Shaders were set up that allowed me to control paint, dirt, and wear by using vertex painting and RGB masks that utilized a second UV channel."
