Xbox Delayed Fable Again In Part Because of GTA 6, Now Releasing February 2027

Xbox has delayed Playground Games' highly anticipated Fable reboot to February 2027, extending development time for one of the company's most important first-party RPGs.

Microsoft has once again pushed back the release of its long-awaited reboot of Fable, with the game now scheduled to launch in February 2027 instead of its previously announced Fall 2026 window. The delay marks the second major postponement for one of Xbox’s most anticipated first-party projects, extending a development cycle that stretches back to the game’s original reveal in 2020.

In a statement on Twitter/X, it seems clear that the delay is due in large part to the existing slate of major releases this holiday season, like GTA 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4.

Fable was originally planned for release in 2025 before Xbox announced in early 2025 that the project would slip into 2026. At the time, Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan emphasized that Playground Games needed additional time to realize the team's vision for Albion and ensure the reboot met expectations.

The reboot carries significant weight for Xbox. Not only is it the first major Fable entry since the closure of Lionhead Studios and the cancellation of Fable Legends, but it also represents Playground Games' first non-Forza project after years of success with the Forza Horizon franchise.

From what we've seen of the new Fable recently, it has a lot of potential. But there is also a lot of pressure to deliver. With each passing year, anticipation and expectation increase, so hopefully, for the sake of the game, this is the final delay. At least, assuming the game will be ready this time around.
