Blender Retopology Tool For Dense Meshes, Scans & Sculpts

Nitro Retopo isn't simply an add-on that generates new topology with little user input.

Adrien Rouquié, known online as Adriflex, created Nitro Retopo to address long-standing challenges he faced as a 3D Character Artist. The idea is simple, keep working with a shape you like, even when its geometry is hard to edit, however, the workflow is quite unique.

Nitro Retopo is built to handle dense meshes created through sculpting, 3D scanning, and AI generation. The process starts by drawing boundaries directly onto the surface to divide the mesh into manageable patches. Curves, straight lines, and freehand strokes can be used to define the specific areas you want to work on. From there, you can separate individual pieces, fill holes, or bridge boundaries between sections. For retopology, you simply define the corners and experiment with different patch layouts and orientations. With just a few strokes, you can define entire regions while still maintaining control over the result.

According to Adriflex, Nitro Retopo can handle models with millions of triangles. In this knight demo, a 1.5-million-triangle model was reduced to a 91,000-triangle working mesh, then retopologized to around 35,000 triangles. Of course, the results can vary depending on the model.

Nitro Retopo

Nitro Retopo is actively maintained: the developer aims to fix bugs quickly and stays open to suggestions for new features and improvements. Right now, Nitro Retopo is available for Blender 5.2 and newer.

In the video at the top of the page, Adriflex walks through the full workflow, covering drawing cuts and choosing patch patterns, repairing openings, simplifying the surface, and generating a new mesh with UVs.
